State-of-the-Art Asphalt
Patching and Repair
Asphalt maintenance and repair is vital for the safety and longevity of your costly asphalt surfaces. During the life span of asphalt surfaces, it is common for significant areas of deterioration to occur and need attention. This generally is caused by heavy localized traffic patterns and erosion of the sub-base from water infiltration. Common areas for these repairs are severe “alligator” cracked areas and potholes. Infrared patching and repair are for those cases when you need to fix minor potholes and cracks on your asphalt surfaces, but don’t need full-scale replacement or resurfacing. This is when infrared patching comes in to quickly repair minuscule surface problems and in the most cost-effective manner possible.
Do I need infrared patching?
Infrared patching is the best route to take if your asphalt surface is located in a high-traffic area and needs to be opened quickly. This is because heavy traffic and repeated exposure to vehicular pressure cause your asphalt surface to weaken and form cracks and potholes. Although these potholes and cracks are small, leaving them unattended means signing up for a heftier replacement bill down the line. So to save yourself from that headache, infrared patching is one of your safest and most cost-friendly, choices. Potholes, besides being unsightly, are dangerous and a huge liability issue for vehicles and pedestrians. Infrared technology heats the current asphalt surface, softening the asphalt without burning. There is no flame in direct contact with the existing asphalt surface.
Benefits of Infrared Patching
- Low cost repair.
- Minimally Invasive.
- Time needed for repair is significantly less than removing and replacing asphalt. Generally, the repair will take 15-20 minutes, making it ideal for commercial parking lot repair.
- Less disruptive to normal traffic flow.
- Thermally bonded repair with no new cold joints between the existing pavement and patched area. Thermal bonding occurs between the old and new asphalt, causing it to become in synergy with one another for a seamless finish!
Applications of Infrared Patching
- Adjust low and high areas.
- Asphalt crack repair.
- Improve water drainage to catch basins.
- Pothole areas.
- Remove oil/fluid spots.
- Speed bumps.
- Transition between asphalt and concrete surfaces.
- Trip hazards.
- Utility cuts.
Our Infrared Patching Process
Area to be repaired is identified.
Infrared heating unit is lowered to within 6″ of the pavement to Heat asphalt to soften repair area.
- Define the edges and rake to loosen the asphalt in the repair area.
- Having heated the area to be repaired, the softened asphalt is raked and cleared of impurities.
- Remove up to 50 percent of loosened asphalt.
- Spray asphalt rejuvenator on repair area to replace oils.
- Add new hot mix asphalt, blend with original asphalt, rake and level. New asphalt is stored at 300° and added to the repair area.
- Roll all edges to provide a seamless bond, roll and vibratory compact balance of repair area.
The repair becomes a seamless part of the original asphalt. Patch is completed in approximately 15 minutes depending on size.
